4 Best 1200W Power Supply 2023 (For Every Use)

Huge power supplies like 1200W power supplies are going to become commonplace, and I have no doubt about this. Graphics cards and CPUs are on a trend where their power consumption are only getting higher, so to compensate, you’re going to need a hefty power supply.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting a 650W PSU in my pc anymore knowing that the GPUs have huge power requirements now. A 1200W power supply is perfect to ensure that you’ll meet all the power requirements in your PC.

Have you ever suffered from an underpowered PC? Let me explain some of the undesirable effects. Low FPS, Frequent crashing, Slow loading times, and an overall slow machine. This is the last thing you want, especially when you spend a ton of money on high-performing CPUs and GPUs.

So, I’ve recommended down below some of my favorite 1200W power supplies, and I’d like to personally share my favorite which is the Corsair HXi 1200i. It’s high quality, and does the job properly despite having underwhelming software.

In a hurry? No worries, I’ve compiled the power supplies in a table below!

1. Phanteks Revolt X 1200W | Best Power Supply For Every Use

1200W For Dual Systems

Specifications

  • Wattage(Max Output): 1200W
  • Efficiency Rating: 80+ Platinum
  • Length: 170MM
  • Modular: Fully Modular
  • Form Factor: ATX
  • Connectors(EPS + PCIE): 4, 8
  • Warranty: 12

Reasons To Buy

  • The power supply runs quietly since the fan is designed to shut off under 40% load. which is beneficial for gamers who hate loud computers, and workers that require quietness.
  • Very long warranty. Seasonic is the OEM of this product, and Seasonic is known for selling some of the best quality power supplies. 12 years is how long the warranty is, and that is very long for power supplies.
  • Perfect for dual system builds. Offers superior cable management compared to dual power supply setups. Also, you’ll save money in the long run as the power supply splits the load between both systems which ends up being more efficient than two units.

Reasons To Avoid

  • Only comes in 80+ Platinum. An 80+ Titanium version would’ve been great for different types of builds such as servers, but it shouldn’t make a big difference.

Review

For a power supply. the Phanteks Revolt X 1200W is pretty innovative, it has features that I find interesting such as having the ability to power 2 motherboards at the same time. And for size, it’s only 170MM which makes this the smallest power supply on this list.

Quality is always the number one priority when it comes to power supplies. Having had power supplies fail on me, I always ensure that they use the highest quality components such as Japanese capacitors and multiple layers of protection. Luckily, the Phanteks Revolt X 1200W all comes with these key features.

If you’re looking to scale down your power supply, there are different versions of the Phanteks Revolt X 1200W, there’s a 650W and a 750W version which is great if your system doesn’t require 1200W of power.

My favorite aspect of the Revolt X 1200W is how quiet it runs. I’m an avid gamer, so quietness is always appreciated. Also, when I have family around, It’s just better to have a power supply that performs quietly so it’s less distracting overall.

For multiple GPUs, the Revolt X 1200W can handle up to 3 GPUs simultaneously, and the power supply is also great at handling heavy loads. This is important since you don’t want a power supply to fail under high-load situations.

One downside to this power supply is the fact it isn’t 80+ Titanium. This would’ve made it a suitable power supply for servers that run 24/7, and considering the fact that this power supply is great at high loads for a long time, I find the fact it’s only 80+ Platinum disappointing.

Alternative: be quiet! Dark Power Pro 12 1500W

2. Asus ROG Thor 1200P | Best 1200W Power Supply For Gamers

1200W PSU for Gamers

Specifications

  • Wattage(Max Output): 1200W
  • Efficiency Rating: 80+ Platinum
  • Length: 190MM
  • Modular: Fully Modular
  • Form Factor: ATX
  • Connectors(EPS + PCIE): 2, 8
  • Warranty: 10

Reasons To Buy

  • Premium feel. Usually, high quality products come with a premium feel which poor and dangerous products tend not to have.
  • High quality components to extend lifespan. The Japanese capacitors are great for increasing the lifespan of a product, they also deliver cleaner power for stability.
  • Zero RGB mode which will shut off the fans if the system isn’t consuming enough power. This is great for the acoustics and durability of the fans.
  • Sleeved cables increase the durability of the cables, and they also look great aesthetically.

Reasons To Avoid

  • You cannot mix and match cable, you can only use the cables that come with the power supply. Using incompatible cables can destroy your hardware.

Review

In terms of aesthetics, the ASUS ROG Thor 1200W is clearly marketed toward gamers. This is evident with its blatant RGB lighting, and the ROG logo which is prominent on it.

It is an 80+ Platinum rated power supply, you can’t really go wrong with 80+ Platinum unless you need maximum efficiency for crypto mining rigs, and servers.

It also uses 100% Japanese capacitors, which means you can expect better performance as well as better durability. Never cheap out on a power supply is what I always hear, and after having one blow on me, this saying couldn’t be more true.

I wouldn’t recommend a power supply that has a risk of blowing and taking other components with it, that’s why the ASUS ROG Thor 1200P features a 10 year long warranty which is a good sign in a power supply. If a company is confident enough to offer a warranty for so long, you can be confident that their product is good.

My favorite feature has to be the looks, the power supply looks and feels premium and high quality. Although a power supply is mostly hidden and arguably the looks don’t matter, it’s nice having something that looks good in the case that can show it off.

I also enjoy how useful the power supply is, if your case is able to show it off, then there’s a wattage indicator on the side that tells you exactly how much power your computer is drawing.

A downside to the power supply is that you cannot mix and match cables. Each cable must be specific to the power supply, and if you want more or need more cables, you need to purchase the exact one for the ASUS ROG Thor 1200P. This means you cannot have any fancy cables as you risk losing the power supply.

3. Corsair HXi 1200i | Best 1200W Power Supply For Workstations

Durable 1200W PSU

Specifications

  • Wattage(Max Output): 1200W
  • Efficiency Rating: 80+ Platinum
  • Length: 200MM
  • Modular: Fully Modular
  • Form Factor: ATX
  • Connectors(EPS + PCIE): 2, 6
  • Warranty: 10

Reasons To Buy

  • Very quiet, this is due to the Zero RPM mode which shuts off the fan under a low enough load. This is great if you’re not gaming, or your PC is running idle.
  • Superior components. The HXi 1200W uses top of the line Japanese capacitors rated for 105C which means the power supply will be able to deliver better quality power under harsher conditions compared to traditional capacitors.
  • 24/7 Usage. This power supply will be able to run 24/7 thanks to its high quality components such as Japanese Capacitors.

Reasons To Avoid

  • The ICUE software isn’t liked by everyone. Some people prefer software made by other companies as they provide different forms of data.

Review

For workstations, I’d have complete trust in the HXi 1200I, this is because it’s extremely durable with their Japanese capacitors rated for 105C. This also means that it can deliver consistent and stable power for when you’re running intensive tasks such as video editing or 3D rendering.

As someone that does a lot of work on their computer, quietness is one of the most important things, so I’d rather not hear my power supply ramping up when I’m performing intensive tasks that require maximum attention. The HXi 1200i addresses this, it runs quietly overall, even at max load.

Also, I do not turn my computer off, I like to keep it running so I can jump right back into action, this power supply is amazing for 24/7 usage thanks to the high quality Japanese capacitors. So, your power supply lifespan will be preserved even overnight.

Corsair is one of the few brands that take care of their customers, so the chances are that you’ll stick with Corsair if you’re satisfied with this power supply. In terms of user experience, they provide you with a Velcro bag where you can store any unnecessary cables.

A potential downside is that the software is poor due to it being dull with its features. The ICUE software doesn’t display enough information about the power supply, and how much the computer is costing you per month.

4. EVGA P2 1200W | Best Overall 1200W Power Supply

Best 1200W PSU

Specifications

  • Wattage(Max Output): 1200W
  • Efficiency Rating: 80+ Platinum
  • Length: 200MM
  • Modular: Fully Modular
  • Form Factor: ATX
  • Connectors(EPS + PCIE): 2, 6
  • Warranty: 10

Reasons To Buy

  • Very quiet whilst in ECO mode. Activating ECO mode means the power supply will shut off the fan when the PC is under a certain load. Perfect for idle and light workloads.
  • Heavy-duty components to extend lifespan. The power supply uses Japanese capacitors which are better than traditional capacitors, they last longer, provide better power, and do better in harsher conditions.
  • Fully modular. You’ll be able to remove cables that your system does not need. This is perfect for cable management which keeps the system clean and cool.

Reasons To Avoid

  • ECO mode isn’t gamer friendly because gaming requires a lot of power and ECO mode may not be able to provide sufficient power.

Review

If you’re looking for a 1200W power supply that doesn’t have fancy features or gimmicks, then the EVGA P2 1200W focuses more on quality rather than unnecessary features. So you won’t see any RGB on this PSU which could be a downside depending on who you are.

As stated, the EVGA P2 1200W focuses primarily on quality, this is a good thing, as quality should be first priority with power supplies. The EVGA P2 contains Japanese capacitors, and they are significantly better than normal capacitors.

So, you can rest assured that the EVGA P2 1200W will go well in whatever PC you want. Gaming, Video editing, Workstations, and even servers could do just fine with the EVGA P2 as it’s reliable and will provide consistent and clean power to your system.

Size wise, it’s pretty large coming in at 200MM, so ensure that your PC case can accommodate a PSU of this size. Normal ATX PC cases should face no issues at all, but if you have a Mini-ITX case, then the chances for clearance issues will be prominent.

If you were to use this power supply in your PC, then you’ll most likely experience some sort of temperature drop, this is because the EVGA P2 1200W runs really cool compared to most power supplies. This is good if your computer suffers from thermal issues.

ECO mode may not be suitable for gamers, this is because it will reduce the performance and output of the power supply to save energy. This means it may underpower certain components such as the graphics card.

5 Tips To Consider Before Purchasing A Power Supply

1. Don’t Assume Higher Wattage = More performance: Many assume that higher wattage power supplies are better for performance, but this isn’t the case. You won’t need a 1200W Power supply unit for a system that only requires 600W.

Higher wattage however will make it easier to provide enough power to your components, so you won’t have to worry about underpowering your PC.

2. Pay Attention To Efficiency Ratings: Higher efficiency power supplies use better components which results in the power supply generating less heat and consuming more energy.

Higher efficiency ratings over a long period of time will save you more money compared to lower efficiency-rated power supplies. This is because they waste less power.

3. Research The Brands: There are so many power supply brands out there, and not all of them produce great products. Reliable manufacturers are – Corsair, Seasonic, EVGA.

4. Know What Type Of PSU You Need: Do you need a modular or a non-modular power supply? Modular power supplies allow you to add and remove cables, but none of them are soldered. Non-modular units come with all the necessary cables pre-attached, you cannot remove any of them.

5. Don’t mix and match cables: If your choice of power supply is fully modular, you’ll notice you can remove all the cables. While this is fine for cable management, you shouldn’t include cables that didn’t come with the PSU, this is why some power supplies fail and bring other components with them.

Capacity & Efficiency:

Before you purchase a power supply, make sure it has an 80% certificate. Most power supplies will have this nowadays, but just keep an eye out.

Conclusion – What’s The Best 1200W Power Supply

Arguably, the best 1200W power supply is the Phanteks Revolt X 1200W, this is because of the long 12-year warranty. There’s really no downside to the power supply besides the fact it is not 80+ Titanium.

Otherwise, the Phanteks Revolt X 1200W fits every box, it provides clean and stable power, it’s highly durable, and it even provides some innovative capabilities such as supporting two motherboards.
